Angling Report: Dec 2003 Lake Brunner Fly Fishing Report
Overall, December was very different to the norm. Water temperatures soared to 22C in the first week, and expected cicada hatches failed to materialise mid-month. The early summer was great in some respects, as good weather is always nice. However, with water temperatures so high, and so early, a sense of trepidation was evident among the local guides!
7-13 December 2003 Jean Malla arrived again for his 3rd annual battle with the denizens of Lake Brunner. Things were a little tougher this year though, and the easy fishing of the past two years was replaced by the challenges of very high water temperatures and very low levels. West Coast lakes from Hochstetter in the north to Mapourika in the south were at a uniform 22C, and the fishing was tough!
21-23 December 2003 - John & Penny Ritterbush: John landed 15 fish for the day. This beauty was one of the 49 fish landed in the three days John & wife Penny were at Lake Brunner with their two sons. The folks got themselves into the "Records" page on multiple counts on the web site;
- 4th Equal Place Men - for the most fish landed with me in one day by a man
- 1st Place Woman - for the most fish landed with me in one day by a woman
- 1st Place - most fish landed with me in one day by two people.
