Angling Report: Jan 2003
Lake Brunner Fly Fishing Report
January
2003 has been a great improvement on Jan of 2002. The weather has been more
typical - hot and sunny, with low clear river conditions, and lots of dry fly
action.

Joe and Shaun O'Leary enjoy a nice sunny start to a day
on the Crooked River. The fish shown below was approx 5 lbs and 24 inches long.
During the course of the day conditions deteriorated slightly, with a dropping
barometer meaning fish were not feeding freely. However, we did have a number of
takes on a dry fly - both on a Carty's General Terrestrial, and a deer-hair
cicada, and Joe got busted off by a nice fish mid-afternoon. The threatened rain
amounted only to a brief shower in the evening, and rivers remained clear.

Michael Rhodes came back in for another taste of Lake
Brunner brown trout action, hooked after last year's visits..

Cicada evident, most takes on #10
deer-hair olive Cicada. (multiple fish rejected the favoured yellow-bodied
Carty's General Terrestrial earlier in the day.)
The fish below went airborne a number of
times prior to being netted and released - after doing its best to wrap the line
around the guide, who graceful pirouette in response was an extraordinary
visual symphony. :-)

Kevin McMann
and his buddy Jim dropped in
for a taste of the action on our side of the lake, after a night at Lake Brunner
Lodge. Previous days had involved a lot of river-bed walking for few fish, so I
think the guys were relieved at the change of pace, sight-fishing from the
driftboat. A total of 15 fish in the net for the day, plus several bust-offs,
and lots of takes where the hook did not stick. all in all, "another day on
Paradise!"

Several fish took the Stimulator, and a yellow-bodied Carty's General
Terrestrial during the afternoon.
