New Zealand Outdoors
New Zealand is an outdoor recreation paradise. An island
nation, the abundance of shorelines, lakes and rivers has
instilled a love of water sports and adventure in the hearts of
its people. Outdoor recreation in some form or another is
enjoyed by the majority of the population.
Boating, fishing,
camping,
hunting, 4WD and hiking are just
some of the activities Kiwi's enjoy.
The country has an
astonishing lack of unpleasant creatures - no snakes,
crocodiles, alligators, scorpions, tigers, bears etc. That makes
for very safe and pleasant camping and hiking excursions. There
are a a couple of poisonous spiders but you've pretty much got
to go hunting for them to get yourself bitten. However, we do
have these little black sand-flies which can be irritating, and
an aerosol of insect repellent with a high concentration of Deet
is always a good thing to have in your pocket.
