Angling Report: Sept 2002 Lake Brunner Fly Fishing Report
September was typical for the first month of spring - a few nice days mixed in with winter's last flings. Overall, a lot of rain for the month, and the last few days were characterised by a series of south-westerly frontal systems which delivered thunder storms, heavy rain and hail, and snow to low levels on the mountains around us....

September 26-28th
The guests were 4 Thai students, who had never been trout fishing before; Pom Tanupamai, Nod Suchitta, Benz Vajanapanich & Prin Puyakul
The weather was appalling on the 26th, we even had snow showers on the lake during the morning! As the day wore on, conditions worsened, if that is possible! However, we did land two trout, and the boys enjoyed the fresh trout sashimi that evening.
The 27th was slightly better, weather-wise. Savage showers, thunder and hail, but with brief fine periods between the squalls. At one point we had to run the drift boat ashore and shelter in under the trees on the forest margin, that rain, hail and thunder were so severe! Two fish were landed in the morning, and the boys had a little rest (to warm up) after lunch :-) We headed out on the lake again around 3:30pm, and had an excellent session from 4-5:30 pm, landing 5 fish in atrocious weather conditions - another thunder storm, howling wind and driving rain. Beautiful.... :-)

The rain continues... and Jade Kemp models the latest in rainwear, holding her 3lb brown trout. This was caught on a Gold-ribbed Hare's Ear Flashback nymph, using Dad's expensive Composite Development GHR rod!!! |
